Scientists have already predicted that alternative energy will be the future of all energy needs. As of now almost all the energy that we use today comes from fossil fuels mainly and a very small fraction of it comes from the so called alternative energy. So it has become imperative now to produce alternative energy and look for other sources even.

Then comes the issue of alternative energy finance, so that we can set up and finally produce alternative energy and benefit from it. We will see types of investments being made in this sector and opportunities available. Of late we are seeing a trend towards this energy form, as it is cleaner, cheap and moreover it is the form of renewable energy which can be produced again and again unlike the fossil fuels which once depleted cannot be regenerated.

But again the core issue is where to get alternative energy finance from and how to profit from them easily. As we all must be aware of that the banks are reluctant to invest and fund the renewable energy financing needs. Wind power financing has already become a major success in certain parts of the world. Here we shall discuss mainly about ways of getting alternative energy finance.

There are certain sources of investment in the renewable energy financing like angel investors, private equity, Venture capitalists, public investors, project finance and corporate houses. Angel investors generally invest in small amounts of money and do not want to get involved in projects of extended period. But as far as seed capital is concerned they can be the best source. Some private equity firms have sensed alternative energy financing as the sector of the future from where they can reap huge profits. So they have started investing in such deals from the start of the decade. Some firms were suspicious of the returns from this sector, but they are also now convinced of this. Now we are at a stage where more new VC firms are trying to enter into renewable energy financing and make it the next big deal.

Public investors are the next biggest sources from where alternative energy finance can be generated. Of late some companies have been set up exclusively to generate power from alternative sources like wind, hydroelectricity, ethanol etc. The public were also initially wary of entering into and investing in such companies but now they are slowly realizing the importance and started investing money in this sector. These companies are issuing stocks to the public through IPOs and raising capital from public investors.

Nowadays alternative energy finance is available for many technologies which have proved their mettle. In this wind power financing leads the race followed closely by solar power financing and then by the biomass project financing. There are some risks but the investors are ready to take it as they also look promising for the future. And finally many corporate houses have also started investing money for the alternative energy financing purpose as it has significant potential. So now we have seen many sources of such finance and their scope for the future.
